Professional Stereo Separation & Phase Polarity Test
READY
Polarity Check
If “Out of Phase” sounds hollow or diffuse, your speaker wires are swapped (+/-).
How to use this Audio Channel Test?
This tool verifies that your speakers, headphones, or studio monitors are wired correctly. It helps you identify two common issues: Swapped Channels and Phase Cancellation.
- Left/Right Check: Click the “Left” button. You should hear the sound only from your left speaker. If you hear it from the right, your RCA/XLR cables are swapped.
- Stereo Center: Click “Stereo”. The sound should appear to come from a “phantom center” point directly between your speakers.
Understanding Phase & Polarity
Phase Cancellation occurs when one speaker pushes air out while the other pulls it in. This happens if you wire one speaker’s Positive (+) terminal to the amplifier’s Negative (-) terminal.
Troubleshooting Guide
| Problem | Likely Cause | The Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Sound comes from wrong side | Cables swapped (L/R) | Reverse Red/White plugs on amp. |
| “Out of Phase” sounds better | Polarity inverted | Check speaker wire (+/-) connections. |
| No sound on one side | Broken cable / Blown channel | Swap cables to test if the speaker or cable is dead. |
